As a self-employed person or freelancer you are the entrepreneur, the salesperson and your own back office. Most people solve that with an invoicing tool, a folder of receipts and a spreadsheet for the rest. That works until you need to know which invoice is still open or what actually came in during the third quarter.
Administration for self-employed people, from first quote to tax estimate
Freelancers (ZZP)
One place for your clients, quotes, contracts, projects, invoices and costs. And at the end, something to hand to your bookkeeper.
Start free, no credit card.
SmartWerk links those parts. A client you enter once comes back on the quote, the contract, the project and the invoice. This page is about the whole chain. For a single part, such as just invoices, see the individual tool pages.
Where it goes wrong in practice
Separate parts that do not know each other
A quote in Word, an invoice in another tool, hours in an app. Every handover means retyping, and every retyping is a chance for a mistake.
Not knowing what is outstanding
You send an invoice and hear nothing. Without an overview you notice late that a payment never arrived.
Costs that only surface in March
Receipts and supplier invoices vanish into email and bags. At year end you hunt for them.
No feel for what you keep
Turnover is not income. If you do not know what is left after costs and tax, you price jobs by gut feeling.

Create the invoice

Match payments

The tools that matter most here
Why this fits SmartWerk
A chain instead of a standalone tool
Quote, contract, project, invoice and bookkeeper package use the same client and line data. That is where SmartWerk differs from a standalone invoice generator.

Frequently asked questions
Is SmartWerk also for freelancers?
Yes. This page is for zzp’ers and freelancers; in the Netherlands those are in practice the same people. If you work for clients abroad, also look at the page on multilingual invoices.
Does SmartWerk replace my bookkeeper?
No. SmartWerk is not a full accounting package. It prepares your administration and provides a package for your bookkeeper.
Is the tax calculator a tax return?
No. It is an indicative estimate and not tax advice. You file with the Dutch tax authority, possibly with your bookkeeper.
What does it cost?
You start free. Prices and plans are on the pricing page.
SmartWerk is invoicing and administration software for self-employed people, not a full accounting package and not a replacement for your bookkeeper or adviser.
